Preview, WrestleMania, WWE

Here are our picks for night 2 of WrestleMania 42. The show is also taking place at Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas, Nevada. The night is headlined with the star-studded main event of Roman Reigns versus CM Punk. Other matches include the highly anticipated Brock Lesnar versus Oba Femi and Trick Williams versus Sami Zayn.

Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar

What’s at stake

The best build to this WrestleMania by far. There were doubts when Brock Lesnar came back to WWE last year at WrestlePalooza. In addition to the ethical questions it raised, the lingering question was what Brock Lesnar can bring now. Does he have anything left to do in wrestling? They just found the right answer. He can put over an up-and-coming star. Brock Lesnar is a master at the art of selling, which, coupled with his large, intimidating body, makes him the perfect choice to put over others.

Oba Femi is on his way to becoming a huge star. He has to win here and go into the main event scene immediately after. DOn’t think he has to lose and get a rematch after.

He should win.

Pick

Oba Femi defeats Brock Lesnar.

Intercontinental Championship: Penta (c) vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Dragon Lee vs. JD McDonagh vs. Rusev vs. Rey Mysterio (Ladder Match)

What’s at stake

You can’t go wrong with this lineup. It should be a fun match with all those high-flyers and Rusev to balance things out and catch others. Evans is having his first WrestleMania match, and with such a configuration, it’s his time to shine, to come up with innovative spots. Penta is just starting his reign, and it would be too soon to lose the belt now. It’s time Penta is given his chance, and he has a lot to offer with great TV matches regularly before dropping the belt eventually.

Pick

Penta retains.

WWE Women’s Championship: Jade Cargill (c) vs. Rhea Ripley

What’s at stake

Somehow, Ripley going for the world title feels refreshing. Her tag team with Iyo Sky felt like a demotion, with all the main stars in the tag team scene leaving the world title picture deserted. Their chemistry in the ring did not translate to their pairing, and Ripley had lost what made her feel special. She’s now back as a singles star to save the title from irrelevance. Cargill has barely defended the belt since winning it in November of 2025. It will be interesting to see where the Cargill experiment goes from here.

Pick

Rhea Ripley wins.

United States Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Trick Williams

What’s at stake

In the vein of Morgan vs Vaquer and Feli vs Lesnar, this one is another example of a good build where everything is kept simple. They have crossed paths backstage many times before Zayn took the belt from Carmelo Hayes. Keeping Hayes out of this match is the right choice. It would have diluted the tension between Williams and Zayn, the ever-underdog veteran versus the young star. The build hints heavily towards a double turn, which means it’s not out of the equation to have Zayn retain to build Williams as a sympathetic babyface.

Pick

Sami Zayn wins.

Finn Bálor vs. Dominik Mysterio

What’s at stake

It does feel too little too late for Bálor. It is certainly a choice to have him return as the demon in this match rather than his world title bouts with CM Punk. WWE trained us not to get our hopes too high for Bálor. He has been booked as an eternal jobber to the stars, always coming short of repeating his successful title win against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam 2016. At least, this time he’s not facing a star. And he’s finally out of the Judgment Day.

Dominiki Mysterio has peaked with his Intercontinental title win at WrestleMania 41. He has stagnated since. While he is a star whenever he appears at AAA, his intercontinental title reign did not help him grow.

Pick

Finn Bálor wins.

World Heavyweight Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. Roman Reigns

What’s at stake

Punk and Reigns played this feud with many worked shoot promos. They got into their personal history, stemming from the resentment that’s been here since Punk “created” The Shield. Things took a melodramatic turn in the go-home segment, where they both confessed to being envious of each other. Punk said he wished he had main-evented as many WrestleManias as Reigns, while Reigns said he wished he were as beloved as Punk.

The feud felt heated when the Usos got involved. Punk played divide & conquer by framing Jey as the real leader of the group, but they have dropped from the feud since.

Punk knows how to put a match together. This match should have the ingredients of the Heyman-produced epics: deliberate pace, false finishes, melodramatic spots. We came to know what to expect from those matches, and the two will have to deliver on this promise.

Pick

Roman Reigns wins.
